This edition of New York Fashion Week has been unique because more brands were testing the waters with a see now and buy now approach while others offered presentations that kept their designs to a select number of individuals while others opted for traditional runway shows. Yet, it was the presence of the ever-increasing amount of smartphones that really caught my attention.
On June 29th we posted a blog titled “Diamonds Are Forever” that recounted the story of the Lesedi la Rona 1,109-carat diamond – in the rough – that was on display for several days in Sotheby’s New York.
Smart, creative people in the digital world can make a difference in our daily lives. Two who have done this are Jack Dorsey, a co-founder and CEO of Twitter and Travis Kalanick, a co-founder and chief executive of Uber.
Looking for love in all the right places can be daunting so when I came across a “dating” article in Fast Company by Jon Birger I was intrigued. I soon found that this was an excerpt from his book, Date-onomics: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game that was published by Workman in 2015. I immediately headed off to the library to get a copy.
In the past five years, we’ve made a number of visits to the Campbell Apartment and, for one reason or another we were unable to get in. So, imagine our dismay, when the New York Post, 7/1/16, reported that it was closing as of the end of July.
On June 16th we went to Williams-Sonoma at Columbus Circle for an event sponsored by Marie Claire magazine that toasted the first anniversary of Made Real Vodka, which is distilled from wheat and honey and made in Port Chester, New York (50 minutes from Manhattan).
This past week, I could hardly believe it, but there was a crispness in the air. There was that feeling that fall was not that far away. Well, before I knew it, that crispness disappeared and humidity came back in. It was a reminder that summer is not over...yet.
Did you know that 2016 is the rare year that has only ONE Friday the 13th and it fell in May (so now we’re safe).
Before we talk about Friday the 13th, let’s take a look at the number “13” itself.

I recently received a phone call from a friend in Chicago who began with,
