Last week we introduced you to the newly opened Hudson Yards and provided lots of basic, down-to-earth information. CLICK HERE for a fantastic video of the grand opening ceremony (sound on/full screen). This week we’re going to focus on the shops and restaurants you will find as well as “The Vessel” (New York’s answer to the Eiffel Tower) and “The Shed” (a performance and exhibition space that expands and contracts).

No matter where you are in the world today, it seems one cannot escape politics. As I do not want this post to be an oxymoron, my goal is to keep it on topic - politics in fashion?. It was not that long ago, I cancelled one of my previously beloved fashion magazines (and as you read this, it wasn't American Vogue). Without thinking twice, I cited the reason being that I was a subscriber to this magazine because it used to be about fashion, now it was about fashion and politics.

On April 15, 2019 a fire broke out beneath the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Since I had seen this magnificent structure in my early twenties I found this horrific news very upsetting. I was grateful that we had scheduled an outing to the recently opened Hudson Yards on the West Side of Manhattan. It was a welcome distraction because this creation of a “brand new neighborhood” was overwhelming. I have 10 pages of typed research notes that I plan to break down into bite-sized points to give you a quick overview of this astounding venture.

I live in a Manhattan building with 21 floors and, I can’t prove it, but I swear there are several dogs on every floor. Most of them are fairly small and well behaved – one rarely hears any barking in the halls or elevators. The tenants are supposed to use the service elevator when going in-and-out with dogs but this isn’t really enforced. Besides, the dogs are very engaging – especially the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

ANNA WINTOUR: When Karl Lagerfeld died I wrote a brief tribute about this amazing designer and decided that was it. CLICK HERE to see this blog. But then, I came across a final good-bye to him titled, “My Brilliant Friend” written by Anna Wintour that appeared in the April 2019 issue of Vogue magazine.

For this blog, I referenced two different publications and guess what? Both used the adjective “self-made” in their headlines to describe Kylie Jenner. I think we all get the play on words when it’s in quote marks – as it was in the New York Post of 3/6/19. It’s been said over-and-over again that Kylie comes from a wealthy family.

Back in the day, buildings such as this were called “girls’ residences” and there were dozens of them – now there are only nine left. Seeing an article on this subject titled, “Maiden Manhattan” by writer Jessica Dailey that appeared in the New York Post on Thursday, March 14, 2019 definitely brought back memories.

Plans were in the works for us to see the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden when, on Tuesday, March 26th, I received a copy of the April issue of Veranda magazine in the mail. As per usual, I sat down to give it a quick run-through to see if there was anything that caught my fancy.

A favorite “fun read” in the Weekend Financial Times is “Lunch with the FT” which always seems to live up to my expectations. In the March 17, 2019 edition a two-hour lunch/interview by Jo Ellison, the FT’s fashion editor with Victoria Beckham did not disappoint.

Have you ever been on a cruise? Or, have you ever thought about going on a cruise?

I have always been fascinated with the idea of taking a trip on the Orient Express train so when I came across a fascinating article titled, “Easy Rider” in the October 2018 issue of Condé Nast Traveler that described a week-long trip from Singapore to Bangkok I was intrigued.
