On Tuesday, October 8, 2019 – the first day of Yom Kippur – we headed out to our favorite Kips Bay Theatre (2nd Avenue and 31st Street) for a 6:20 pm showing of Downton Abbey. Kips Bay currently has a terrific deal: If one signs up for an “Insider” card (it’s free) you can see a first run movie at any time during the day or night on Tuesdays for $6.00 – which is pretty incredible. Or, paraphrasing The Godfather, I’d say, “That’s an offer we couldn’t refuse.”
I sometimes think that I’ve been sleeping on Ralph Lauren’s bedding, wearing his apparel and buying his shirts for hubby – my entire life. I don’t know how he does it, but I’ve never bought a single thing of his that I didn’t love. He hits it out of the park every time.
I have always been intrigued by the actress/model/director, Chloë Sevigny because she’s an independent spirit who follows her own path. I mean this in a good way. Back a bit, I read that she had just earned a nice chunk of change so she treated her friends to a stay at the GoldenEye resort on the island of Jamaica.
I’m always on the prowl for fascinating females doing unusual things so I was stopped in my tracks by an article that appeared in the New York Post on Monday, September 23, 2019.
You and your family came to Manhattan for the holidays, but you’re having so much fun you decide to stay longer. After the tree at Rock Center, the windows on Fifth and the Met what else is there? You’re in “The City That Never Sleeps” so there are lots more goodies for you and yours to take in.
We’re at the beginning of 2020 so I wanted to start with a “WOW” – however I hope I’m not overdoing it! When I came across this piece in The Week of August 30, 2019 (it originally appeared in TheDailyBeast.com and was written by journalist, Jeff Maysh) I was thunderstruck. I simply couldn’t believe what I was reading.
When the temperature drops in New York City we can only think of one thing: where to go for sun and fun? Don’t get me wrong. Festive holiday times in Manhattan are fantastic! There are a million things to see and do. Every year I make a point of checking out all the store windows on Fifth Avenue and beyond. And I’m never disappointed. Of course there will be no Lord & Taylor display this year. I find this a bit sad. The 104-year-old store was shuttered for good in January 2019 – definitely the end of an era.
This is an intriguing topic that I rarely see addressed in fashion magazines: namely, do females ever think about the NUMBER of times they’ll wear a garment or use an accessory versus the COST of the item? We’re not talking about bridesmaid’s dresses here – where many say, “I don’t think I’ll ever wear this again.” I’m talking about regular stuff for morning, afternoon or evening.
If there’s one thing we know about The Big Apple it’s that there’s lots to do during the holidays. Every year I’m amazed at how many people stroll down Fifth Avenue to see all the classy shops with their highly decorated windows. Sadly, there will be no Lord & Taylor this year but, as per usual I’m sure Bergdorf’s will come up with a real showstopper. Here’s a brief overview of what you can do and see.

Today we’re going to take a look at a new documentary that chronicles the first all-women sailing crew to race around the world. This film has received rave reviews and if I find out where it’s playing at some point, I will definitely plan to see it.
