Today we’re going to take a look at a new documentary that chronicles the first all-women sailing crew to race around the world. This film has received rave reviews and if I find out where it’s playing at some point, I will definitely plan to see it.

When we saw Crazy, Rich Asians, the smash romantic comedy of 2018, we all agreed that one of the standout performers in the movie was Awkwafina (Nora Lum) – she was a definite scene-stealer. By the way, where are the sequels? The latest rumor is that filming will start with two movie sequels filmed back-to-back in 2020. Don’t bet the rent money. But never mind, when they do come out I’m sure they’ll knock our socks off.

I have a subscription to Air & Space, which is a bimonthly magazine that was first published in 1986 and comes from the Smithsonian. It’s especially relevant this year because this is the 50th Anniversary (1969-2019) of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. Neil Armstrong’s first words – as he stepped down onto the soil of Luna were, “One small step for man, one giant step for mankind,” as the whole world watched.

Let’s get one thing straight: I’m not a morning person. This means that every day I get up, fire up the computer for emails, stagger into the kitchen to make a blistering hot, strong 20 oz. mug of coffee and finally, click on New York’s Channel One to check on the weather and/or news while sinking into the sofa and trying to wake up. Ergo: I hate mornings or as Moss Hart once famously said, “Nothing happens before noon, that doesn’t happen after.”

When I first received the confirmation I would be writing for Adea, I was so excited. The brand was founded on principles I appreciate, such as craftsmanship and quality. From my first post back in 2014, we have discussed the latest trends, including belt bags; went back to basics with Adea; offered tips to find the right bra; and traveled across the world.

I read this interview in the June 2, 2019 issue of the Weekend Financial Times and found it absolutely astounding -- even unbelievable. Of course, I hasten to add that I have never met anyone who could be described as a “prodigy” – in the world of science or any other endeavor.

I have always had a fondness for the storied and elegant Plaza Hotel in New York City. Back in the day I interviewed a delightful fashion editor in the Plaza’s famous Palm Court. I found the whole experience fascinating so when I came across an article about the history of the Plaza I started reading at once.

For 58 years, 89% of the astronauts have been men. And for 192 years, there were no women justices on the Supreme Court until Sandra Day O’Connor in 1981. In light of where we are today – these numbers are shocking.

In the five years that I’ve been writing these fashion blogs I’ve come to the conclusion that the creative heads of these worldwide companies have daunting, or almost impossible, daily jobs. The headline you see above came from Alessandro Michele who, in January 2015, became the creative director of Gucci, the company that was founded in Florence, Italy in 1921 and currently has 500 stores worldwide.

I had never heard the words “Sleeping Policeman” until we went to Barbados, an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies (in the Caribbean region of North America). It simply means “a speed bump” or something that will slow you down.

In the Weekend Financial Times of 5/12/19 there was a photo of Robyn Rihanna Fenty (born February 20, 1988) with the headline, “Force of fashion Rihanna makes history with luxury brand at LVMH.”
