We are thrilled to introduce our guest blogger and stylist, Marisa. Each week Marisa will use her expertise to bring you fresh style ideas, fashion news, and tips for wearing Adea’s pieces. Marisa currently works for Stilista|Boston, Boston’s full-service style agency. As a personal shopper and stylist, Marisa educates her clients about the cuts and proportions that are best suited for their body type and selects fashion-forward yet classic pieces that will stand the test of time. She helps each of her clients to build and maintain a wardrobe and style that not only suits their lifestyle, but also expresses their unique personality.

In addition - so as not to let her English major from Colby College go to waste - Marisa writes on a weekly basis about fashion trends, tips and tricks for Stilista|Boston’s blog and is the author of a daily Facebook series entitled, “Stylist Tip of the Day,” for which she posts a daily fashion tip for her Facebook audience. What started as a personal challenge of sorts has turned into a well-followed and much “liked” daily routine. She resolves to finish out the year without missing a single day.

When shopping for and styling herself, Marisa selects pieces with simple silhouettes, but a bit of a tough-girl edge. As a result, she has a very hard time turning down a great pair of dark, raw denim jeans, a fabulous pair of leather boots or a fitted leather jacket.

We asked Marisa a few questions to get to know her better…

What is your must-have accessory?:
I’m not that big on accessories for myself as I tend to make the focus of my outfits more about layering and the interesting combination of pieces and silhouettes. However, my left wrist has 3 woven “friendship” bracelets on it that never come off and I rarely leave the house without adding 3-4 leather wrap bracelets to the pile. Oh, and I LOVE scarves. My neck is rarely without one from September through May.

Who is your favorite style icon?:
Gwen Stefani. Without a doubt. She is a style innovator, not just an icon. She has as signature look – the platinum hair, the red lips and the rock star glamour - yet each outfit feels fresh, new, exciting and somehow unexpected. And she has an amazing knack for successfully combining opposites – hard and soft, clashing patterns and colors, masculine and feminine, sweet and tough, preppy and punk…the list goes on.

If you could revive something from the 80’s what would it be?:
I think that most of it – for better or for worse – has been revived already. What I respond to most on a personal level is the head-toe-denim trend. I love an oversized, pale chambray shirt over a pair of dark denim skinny jeans. It is an insanely simple way to get dressed and looks great with a pair of boots and a leather jacket.

The Invasion of the Brit Tabloid

October 22, 2020

I just read an article that sounded – to me at least – like “a canary in a coal mine” or an early warning of danger. This piece, written by Joe Pompeo, appeared in the May 2020 issue of Vanity Fair magazine with the title “The British Tabloid Invasion” and a subtitle that read, “How the Daily Mail is conquering American gossip.”

Are You Sleeping Well?

October 14, 2020

Apparently the good old U.S. is a nation of “not great” sleepers. Really? And I thought I was the only one! According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention it was revealed that one out of three Americans are chronically sleep-deprived. Yikes!

Magical Hermès

October 06, 2020

I think we’re all taken by the incredible mystique of the famous French fashion house, Hermès that has been with us for two centuries and is still owned and operated by the same family. From its beginnings in fine equestrian leather goods, they are – in the tumultuous year 2020 – best known for their handbags and many other items.

My image of Hermès has always been rarified products at equally rarified prices so imagine my surprise when I recently received a very stylish publication of theirs in the mail.

Bodywear

We use Italian lingerie sizing  for our bodywear and items tend to run small.

Because of the body-hugging nature of the fabric and our body conscious fit most women prefer to wear our layering tops as under-layers. If you are inclined to wear them on their own we suggest you size up. Please contact us. We're happy to help you get it right.
