Until recently, I liked watches but did not fully appreciate them. As I began to learn more about watches and what makes them so special - from the craftsmanship to the hours of manual labor to the fact a well made watch can last longer than one's lifetime - they took on a whole new meaning.
In honor of this year's Baselworld, which is the watch show of the year, I thought it fitting to take a look at some of this year's new watches.
For some perspective as to the size of Baselworld 2016, there were about 1,500 brands represented with around 145,000 attendees that headed to Basel, Switzerland, to experience the newest and the greatest in both women's and men's watches.
With so many brands at the show, you can imagine the five watches highlighted below are just grazing the surface. Yet, it should offer a glimpse into Baselworld 2016.
Danish Design
Class Chronograph
The brand's 975 series are its best sellers, although, what's new for this year are four new models with stitched straps. These timepieces are for men and women and include a date display, a slightly domed mineral crystal glass and a fully polished 42mm watch case.

Blue Mesh
This Danish watch brand has released its Milanese mesh strap in a new blue. In addition to this feature, this timepiece also includes scratch-resistant sapphire glass, Swarovski elements and shiny rose gold-colored casings.

Mühle-Glashütte
ProMare Lady
"A Natural and Nautical Beauty," is how the brand describes this watch, which is new to their 2016 line-up. It's meant to blend sport with fashion and the sea and features a mother of pearl face with a white bezel ring that frames the face and has a white leather or a rubber strap.

KYBOE!
Neon Yellow Watch
This Netherlands-based watch brand announced its U.S. debut and is probably one of the more colorful watches. Speaking of which, the color was inspired by the tulip fields of the Netherlands. This timepiece also includes a stainless steel case, LED back-lighting and a signatures silicone band.

Obaku
Links, Links, Links
This year, this Danish watch brand has leveraged links in the bracelets of its timepieces versus mesh and leather, as they have previously done. The brand focuses on purity, simplicity and balance.

So many choices!
Of course, there is still something missing - how about an Adea camisole to show off that new watch.

I just read an article that sounded – to me at least – like “a canary in a coal mine” or an early warning of danger. This piece, written by Joe Pompeo, appeared in the May 2020 issue of Vanity Fair magazine with the title “The British Tabloid Invasion” and a subtitle that read, “How the Daily Mail is conquering American gossip.”

Apparently the good old U.S. is a nation of “not great” sleepers. Really? And I thought I was the only one! According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention it was revealed that one out of three Americans are chronically sleep-deprived. Yikes!

I think we’re all taken by the incredible mystique of the famous French fashion house, Hermès that has been with us for two centuries and is still owned and operated by the same family. From its beginnings in fine equestrian leather goods, they are – in the tumultuous year 2020 – best known for their handbags and many other items.
My image of Hermès has always been rarified products at equally rarified prices so imagine my surprise when I recently received a very stylish publication of theirs in the mail.
